PARALYMPIAN INSPIRES SENIOR SCHOOL GIRLS

Our Senior School staff and girls were privileged to have one of Holland’s most celebrated sportswomen, the inspirational Monique Kalkman, address us during assembly yesterday!

Monique won a gold and a bronze medal in Women’s Table Tennis events at the 1984 Summer Paralympics. She then decided to concentrate on wheelchair tennis at the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Paralympics. She is the first and only female athlete to win a gold medal in two individual Paralympic sports, and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame last year!

After retiring from tennis, she shifted her focus to golf and founded Going4Golf, a foundation which aims to promote golf for people with disabilities. She is currently promoting The Global Challenge which is a Professional Women’s Golf Teams charity fundraiser which aims to promote women’s golf, and inclusivity in the sport, taking place in Hermanus from 9 – 11 November 2018.

Thank you Monique for taking the time to spend an inspirational morning with us!
